CRPD: Personal Mobility

In Article 20, the CRPD promotes that States Parties must take effective measures to ensure that persons with disabilities enjoy personal mobility with the greatest possible independence by providing:

– Access to personal mobility in the manner and at the time of their choice at an affordable cost.

– The easy access to quality forms of live or animal assistance and intermediaries, support technology, technical devices, and mobility aids, they even make them available at an affordable cost.

– Persons with disabilities and specialized personnel are offered to work with persons with disabilities, and to train them in mobility-related skills.

– Entities manufacturing mobility aids, devices, and support technologies are encouraged to consider all aspects of mobility for persons with disabilities.

Having infrastructures, regulations, and practices focused on safe, easy, and universal mobility in every environment for all people is key to the full enjoyment of an accessible world.
